We are concerned about the $85 million budget cuts under the sequestration plan and the impact on Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These cuts will impact Section 8 housing, veterans housing, housing for homeless individuals, housing for those who are mentally ill, and the list goes on.

We cannot let this happen to us! We are ready to fight this. Just because we live in Santa Barbara, don’t assume we live in Paradise. We live on very little, and struggle to pay our rent each month. For those in HUD programs, a third of our income goes to rent.

We must protect out most vulnerable people. We will let our Congressional representatives know our minds, and our needs, and we will ask them to be accountable to us, people with disabilities.

Partnering with the Independent Living Resource Center [ILRC], an agency that speaks out for people with disabilities, we will speak for those who cannot, and we will make sure our voice is heard.

Please listen to us. We are the ones for which the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed. If there was a need to write a disabilities act, then there obviously is a need to listen to this population!
