Peace Festival

Join together with community activists in a celebration of our Peacemakers who have passed on. These leaders left us a legacy of commitment to work for PEACE and JUSTICE in our communities and our nation. We will have short, 3 to 5 minute-long speeches for participants in eulogy of the efforts of local activists who have inspired us with their vision for a more just and enduring democratic society.

Sanderson Beck will present a workshop on NON-VIOLENCE as a safe and effective strategy for social change and reform.

Come and enjoy the music of Penny Little and Nick!

When: Saturday, May 11, 12 Noon to 2 pm

Where: De la Guerra Plaza, (nearby State Street and El Paseo Nuevo)

We will commemorate the efforts of activists like Lynn Hendred, who worked tirelessly until her death on important projects such as regulating fraudulent banks, fighting toxic nuclear power, and educating elders on the benefits of alternative medicines and proper nutrition. Her Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) stands opposed to drones, fracking, and pipelines.

We will also remember other precious people who have worked and passed on such as Art Schwartz, Nancy Broyles, David Wass, June Sunderland, Betty Shoemaker, and Maurine Parker, to mention just a few.
