Regarding Buellton’s ban on head shops, I find it hypocritical that in a community where alcohol sales and consumption are so prevalent and increasing rapidly, there is such opposition to anything relating to the sale or use of marijuana.

Marijuana was legal in the U.S. until 1937, so those who oppose its prohibition are not supporting a radical concept, but re-legalization. As someone who neither drinks alcohol nor uses marijuana, I have no stake in this issue other than to point out the contradictions.

While I don’t think it’s a good idea to drive while under the influence of any drug, the evidence is overwhelming that alcohol has far more dangerous effects on one’s ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle. I’ve had four family members hit by drunk drivers in separate incidents resulting in two of them being maimed and another being killed. So far, no family members, friends, or acquaintances have been hit by people under the influence of marijuana.

Additionally, in my 51 years of living and traveling, I have seen plenty of people drunk, and plenty of others under the influence of marijuana, and all the violent behavior I’ve seen is by those under the influence of alcohol. How many times do we read about domestic abuse related to marijuana consumption alone?

Kind of sad that bc must continually restate facts that should be obvious to everyone. Thanks.
