Man Threatens Vandenberg Base Guards

Vandenberg Air Force Base was put on alert 5/24 after an unidentified man driving a stolen car made threatening remarks to base security at the Santa Maria Gate. The man — who was seen driving erratically before the confrontation — was detained and turned over to Sheriff’s deputies as Air Force personnel swept the vehicle for possible explosives. Northbound and southbound traffic on Highway 1 was diverted away from the Santa Maria Gate during this time. No explosives were found. It’s unclear if the man has been charged with any crimes.
