Aaron Loy

One of the three UCSB students diagnosed with meningococcal disease had his feet amputated last week to reduce further infection, according to a CaringBridge page. Though the Public Health Department and UCSB Student Health have released few specifics about the three students who were diagnosed with the bacterial disease earlier this month, Aaron Loy — a freshman on the lacrosse team from Carlsbad — has been in critical condition for two weeks, according to online posts.

Loy first received treatment at Cottage Hospital and then was transported via a medical plane to UC San Diego. A flurry of support has filled Facebook pages and his CaringBridge site, which has close to 20,000 page visits and 2,000 “hearts.” As of press time, the latest post by “The Loy Family” said Loy’s day-to-day stats are good and improving steadily.
