Santa Barbara police arrested seven gang members Sunday night after they allegedly chased a 21-year-old victim — who has no gang affiliation — with a tire iron, bat, and knives along North Voluntario Street.

According to SBPD spokesperson Sgt. Riley Hoover, the victim had dropped off his girlfriend at her home at around 11:30 p.m. when he noticed a white Lincoln Town Car traveling northbound. As it passed, the driver reportedly shouted the name of his group’s gang then stopped the car. The occupants got out and “challenged the victim regarding his gang affiliation,” Harwood said. “The victim repeatedly stated that he did not belong to a gang; nevertheless the suspects chased the victim on foot.”

The victim was able to run to the safety of a nearby home, and police soon tracked down and arrested the group on Milpas Street. Five of the suspects were arrested as adults and each booked in jail on $100,000 bail — Andres Hernandez, age 18; Juan Herrera, age 19; Manuel Hernandez, age 18; Angel Garcia, age 18; and Gustavo Leon, age 21. Two 17-year-old males were arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall. Small quantities of cocaine and marijuana were also seized.

The five were charged with participation in a criminal street gang, disturbing the peace, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The youths were charged with participation in a criminal street gang and disturbing the peace.

scum of the earth. if you live in SB you have access clean running water, refrigerated food, a roof over your head and vast public resources (schools, parks, recreation services, the beach, the mountains, churches, community centers, etc) and yet these idiots choose to make nothing of the opportunities handed to them, instead spreading general terror on the streets. there are billions of people on earth far less fortunate than these kooks, lock em' up and throw away the key.

Time to STOP treating these cockroaches with kid gloves and terrorize them the way they do to the innocent citizenry.

I'm sure these 7 idiots are against the gang injunction. Are you?

Bullies indeed. These wannabe man boys look higher than kites but at the same time dumber than a sack of rocks. Must be difficult being so conflicted. I really hope the judge gives them no leniency. I wonder what their parents are doing or if they have chosen a similar path? Break the cycle people.

Illegal aliens or their children commit 99% of this horrible behavior as well as 99% of graffiti in Santa Barbara.

Think about that and stop being PC for a minute.

Clearly we need huge amounts of more illegal immigrants and their current or resulting children. Clearly we need to tear down the walls, open the border, cancel the gang injunction effort and "reach out" with after school arts and crafts and of course higher taxes and more lib-dem staffed "community organizers".

I am starting to get numb with these constant gang related events. The bigger ones hit the News Press and the Indie. The daily smaller events like fights, assaults and general gang and transient mayhem are reported in Noozhawk and Edhat every day. Time to take back this City before it get any worse. The "usual suspects" are getting bolder all the time.

I would be more worried about the "usual suspects" in our government who cause these type of conditions and will probably increase the more they sell us "the people" out.

I don't believe these statistics. Got a cite? I'm 99% sure you're pulling those numbers out of your nether regions.

"PC" has become a worthless cliche on the right. Lacking any argument, they shout "PC" as if that has any relevance whatsoever.

Willy is only wrong 99% of the time, so it is okay. He is totally "fair and balanced"
