Educators Honored For Teacher Induction Program

Hundreds filled a large banquet room at Bacara Resort & Spa on 10/12 for the county’s first Salute to Teachers event. Tyler Wilkes, Amanda Sweigart, Megan Cotich, Cheryl Lastra, Jessica Zambrano, and Michelle Poquette were honored for their participation in the Teacher Induction Program. The mentor program pairs new teachers with veteran educators and is part of a statewide initiative to ensure classroom newbies are adequately supported, after a recent study found that nearly 22 percent of teachers left the profession after their first four years and cited “lack of support” as the main reason.
