UCSB, coming off three consecutive overtime victories on the road, returns to Harder Stadium on Tuesday night (Oct. 23) to take on Sacramento State in a Big West men’s soccer match. The Gauchos, 10-4 overall, are 5-0 in the conference and have won their last six games. Their RPI rating (combining results with strength of schedule) is No. 2 in the nation.

Three different players scored the last three game-winning golden goals for the Gauchos – Achille Campion on a penalty kick to top Cal State Northridge, 2-1; Kevin Garcia-Lopez on a last-minute, 70-yard run for a 2-1 victory over UC Irvine; and Goffin Boyoko on a header that capped a comeback against UC Davis, 3-2. Freshman midfielder Drew Murphy, who assisted on Boyoko’s goal and scored one himself at Davis, was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week.

The Gauchos go back on the road Friday night (Oct. 26) at Cal Poly. Every year since 2008, Cal Poly has filled its stadium (11,000 seats) for the UCSB men’s match.

In high school football Friday night, the Dos Pueblos Chargers, coming off victories over Santa Barbara and San Marcos, will host Ventura with a shot at the Channel League championship in their sights.

Bishop Diego, top-ranked on the CIF Northwest football poll, will face No. 2 Oak Park on Saturday night at La Playa Stadium.
