If we are the keepers of the world consciousness, then we need look no further than our own backyard to exercise that consciousness. Is it compassionate to have millions of Americans — men, women, and children, not to mention the elderly — not know where their next meal is coming from? Is it compassionate to see college graduates with advanced degrees working for $15 an hour, with an education that cost over a hundred thousand to obtain, when the higher-paying jobs have been shipped by American corporations to a third-world country where the job is done for $3 an hour so the corporations, but not people, profit? And, finally, how can we justify our worship of the NRA when our own children are gunned down in their school yards? Where is the compassion there?

What is our government doing trying to justify entering Syria when the American people, who they are supposed to serve, are against it? How can a country twist its values so and still try to justify them?

Independent Discussion Guidelines

More Americans die from food contamination, air and water pollution than from terrorist orgs. Yet, we spend untold amounts filling the pockets of corps to fight a fight while our govt reps want to lax rules and regs on the govt agencies that are supposed to over see food, air, water poisoning. Face it, there's more money in it for them to keep us down. We are a capitalist society to the death and worship at the altar of greed, money, power, fame. We have overcome this in the past, but fall for this scam time and again.

To follow up on what Spacey said about 3000 people died from terrorism in America in the last 12 years (due to lax airport security) out of a population of 300,000,000. That makes the odds about 1 in 100,000 that one of us will die of a terrorist attack. I'd say 1 in 100,000 means I'm not going to lose any sleep over being attacked, and if it happens, than so be it.

Govt won't work for the people until their re-election campaign costs are covered by the people. Think of the money we'd save!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why only in their farewell addresses did Geo Washington warn us against passionate attachments to other countries, and Ike warn us of Military-Industrial Complex? Red flag! Here be the root problems, if anyone cares to know.

Adonis: The Libertarians suggest that if the role of government was greatly reduced, (and speaking of which, congrats on your weight loss) then with less institutions/people/entities on the government payroll these formerly government-funded boodogles would have no reason to be giving $$$ to try to buy off politicians.

By the way, your mom says you and I and Lis need to get together. How does Sunday night sound?
