On Saturday September 28, 2013, Santa Barbara-area museums will open their doors free of charge along with over 1,400 other participating venues for the 9th annual Museum Day Live! The participating local venues include Casa Dolores, Elverhoj Museum of History and Art, Rancho La Patera & Stow House, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Santa Barbara Historical Museum, Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Ty Warner Sea Center, and Wildling Museum―which will emulate the free admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, D.C.-based facilities, encouraging learning and the spread of knowledge nationwide.

Museum Day Live! fulfills Smithsonian Media’s mission to make cultural education accessible to everyone. For one day only, participating museums will grant free access to visitors who download a Museum Day Live! ticket at Smithsonian.com. Last year’s event drew over 400,000 participants, and this year’s event expects record-high participation.

To download a free Museum Day Live! Ticket, visit Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! Ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address. For more information about Museum Day Live! 2012 and a list of participating museums and cultural institutions, visit Smithsonian.com/museumday.

Spearheading this local effort is MACA (Museums and Cultural Attractions) of Santa Barbara, a consortium of marketing professionals from County nonprofit organizations dedicated to collaborative promotion of the region’s museums and cultural attractions.
