The Funk Zone Neighborhood Association and the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative have organized a neighborhood-wide event in the Funk Zone that will take place on Saturday, October 19. The Second Annual Funk Zone Arts Festival will highlight the value of the area’s artist/artisan population, its architectural heritage, and its unique mix of locally owned businesses. It will be a chance to experience first-hand the neighborhood’s unique culinary and cultural offerings, including food and wine specials, exclusive dining experiences, and guided tours of the area’s creative community.

The Funk Zone Arts Festival is a chance to discover some of the hidden and not-so-hidden treasures that make this neighborhood so special. If you have been intrigued but mystified by the Funk Zone, you are invited to take one of a variety of guided tours of the places that have made this one of Santa Barbara’s most vibrant communities. Come wander around the Urban Wine Trail, get a bite to eat at a cafe or a pop-up restaurant, and visit one of the many galleries and art studios that will be open on this day.

Our first festival, last year’s Focus on the Funk Zone, brought approximately five thousand people to this vibrant neighborhood, and with so much happening in the neighborhood this last year, we look forward to an even more expansive arts community event.

Current participants include AMASS Gallery, the Art Crawl, the Arts Fund, Cabana Home, CMND-Z, the Foundry, GONE Gallery, Green House Studios, Koplin/Levin Studio, Karl Kras Design Studio, Le Chambre Photographique, Lark, Lucky Penny, the Lights Project, Pianos on State, Metropulos Fine Food, MichaelKate Interiors, Reds, the Surf Museum, wall space gallery, and Youth Interactive. More participants are being added daily.

This year we are pleased to be partnering with the New Noise Music Conference & Festival, which is happening October 17–19. The festival, in its fifth year, is a project of the New Noise Music Foundation, whose mission is to create a participatory creative culture by producing, in addition to the annual Festival, concerts, workshops, lectures, and volunteer/mentoring programs for those of all ages, especially young people.
