Construction of the Cold-In-Place Recycle on Hollister Avenue In the Second Supervisorial District, To Begin April 2014

Construction of the County’s pavement rehabilitation project on Hollister Avenue in the Second Supervisorial District is scheduled to begin in April 2014.

Construction of the County’s pavement rehabilitation project on Hollister Avenue in the Second Supervisorial District is scheduled to begin in April 2014. This $1 million dollar project will rehabilitate approximately four lane miles on Hollister Avenue using a process called cold-in-place recycling, which mills the existing asphalt concrete pavement, combines it with new emulsifiers, and places it back on the roadway. Once it is placed, a final thin overlay of new hot mix asphalt is applied. This process reduces the impacts of paving by reusing existing materials, reducing trucking, and limiting the greenhouse gas emissions for material production and construction while still creating a quality, long-life roadway.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2014, and to be completed in May 2014, contingent on weather conditions. Working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Hollister Avenue, between Turnpike Road and Lassen Drive. Drivers should be aware of reduced speed zones and increased traffic control when driving through the construction sites. Public Works encourages the travelling public to use an alternate route when possible.

Funding for this work comes from Measure A and a State-Local partnership grant. Second District Supervisor, Janet Wolf said, “I am thrilled that this important street in the heart of the unincorporated Second District is getting much needed and extensive rehabilitation through this innovative, process.”

The Public Works Department thanks local residents, businesses, cyclists, pedestrians and the travelling public for their patience and cooperation during the construction of this project.
