The supervisors voted 3-2 to support a bill written by State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson encouraging law enforcement agencies to implement a policy for conducting gun-database searches ahead of welfare checks. Senate Bill 505 — proposed after the Isla Vista murders — hasn’t received the thumbs up or down from Sheriff Bill Brown and District Attorney Joyce Dudley; the Sheriff’s Office doesn’t currently have a set procedure in place. Supervisor Janet Wolf (along with Doreen Farr and Salud Carbajal) voted in favor, but said she preferred the original bill, which would have made the searches mandatory.
