Deputy Shot in Training Exercise

A Santa Barbara Sheriff’s deputy was shot Saturday afternoon during a training exercise in Goleta. “There was an accidental discharge and a deputy was shot in the arm,” said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kelly Hoover in an email. “Fortunately it was a minor injury. He is being treated at a local hospital.” The incident took place at around 2:30 p.m. in the 7500 block of Hollister Avenue. County firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene. Hoover declined to provide any additional information about the shooting.
