A stabbing occurred Monday around 1:00 p.m. in front of the Canary Hotel’s Finch & Fork restaurant on the corner of Carrillo and Chapala streets. According to police spokesperson Sgt. Riley Harwood, officers responded to a fight at the intersection after multiple 9-1-1 calls, one of which indicated an assault with deadly weapon had taken place.

Harwood said an altercation occurred at some location in the downtown area and culminated in the stabbing of a 31-year-old male. Citing the ongoing investigation, Harwood said he could not release many details on the incident, but stated there are currently an unspecified number of suspects under arrest at the police station. Authorities will determine possible charges following interviews with the suspects, he explained.

A witness at the scene (who did not want to be named) said she saw five or six young Hispanic males — possibly teenagers or in their early twenties — gathered on the corner of Carrillo and Chapala. One of the men was stabbed in the back, she said, but the wound did not look very deep. There was a trail of blood on the sidewalk in front of the hotel. One of the suspects was pushing a stroller with a child in it, she said, and the group fled east on Carrillo Street.

A Canary Hotel employee — a valet attendant — said he saw three men stop briefly near the hotel’s entranceway (at 31 W. Carrillo St.) to converse. He said he saw the man with the stroller continue running down Carrillo Street, and two others walked into the hotel entranceway. One of the men was holding a rag — soaked and dripping with blood — on his back. Once the two men saw that the valet attendant was looking at them, they ran through the entranceway and turned left.

Police and medics responded to the parking lot at Rabobank (on the corner of Carrillo and Anacapa streets) and two subjects were detained. A woman arrived at the parking lot to take the child from the arrested man, who was heard yelling in Spanish out the window of a police car, “No dice nada!”

The incident is believed to be gang-related, and there may be more suspects, Harwood said.

Exactly what our downtown economy needs. Now we get to drain a few more millions out of the economy putting these gang-bangers on trial to ensure justice is served.

Gangs are a rat hole in this town. Gang injunction ASAP. Tired of wasting money and time on this small group who disproportionately take from everyone else and give nothing in return. No excuses. No gangs.

"No dice nada" means essentially "I ain't talking". Nice. Which is why it costs the courts so much to get these guys behind bars, as well as now putting their abandoned families into the welfare system forever.

But hey, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. And proving this hiding in plain sight blood on our streets again costs our county tax dollars plenty.

Do you really like knowing how much of our county revenue goes to put these gang bangers behind bars. Grand Jury needs to make this report now.

Guess what gang-bangers, you know what the real cause of gang violence is? You. You and your lack of impulse control. Period. If you didn't act so stupid, maybe there would be enough money to send you to Harvard, instead of jail. Your call.

Make a bargain. Find out how much the county spends running gang-bangers through the justice system every year. Make a pact, no more gang violence that ends up in the court system and the savings to the county goes into special scholarship fund.

Try it for a few years. Sunset clause on the bargain. But do start feeling there is a direct incentive to getting smart, instead of acting stupid. Call it a "Ladder of Opportunity" scholarship, and if it is too late for you, how about your little brother or sister - Jail or Harvard, it is in your hands.

I think that "No dice nada" means that the guy in the car was telling the woman to say nothing --- and it might have been "No diga(s) nada! "

It will be interesting to see if any of these types are on the gang injunction list. But it sounds like foofighter's bargain would be a better deal, all around.

Impulse control? Or just back stabbing beeeiiiiaaaaayiiitches? I think the injunction would work nicely to control their impulses since they don't seem to be able to do it themselves. So lets see, Monday middle of the day, broad daylight, one of the most crowded intersections in the city and you have a few associates that are probably on the dream team (gang injunction members) stabbing each other in the back while one of them pushes a baby in a stroller down the street? Man, this is like an episode of Castle. Can someone even make this crap up?

I'm not saying anything would be "no digo nada". No dice nade means you/he/she isn't saying anything, and if you tell someone not to say anything you'd say "no diga nada".

Anyway, I'm glad to see gun control laws are working so well to stop these stabbings.

Illegal immigrants or their children.

Clearly we need many, many more illegal immigrants and the children they have here for the lib-dem open border types to spend more hard earned tax dollars on. They fill our schools, crowd out native English speakers and many of them stab, beat and rob people, and use huge, huge amounts of federal, state and county welfare benefits.

Then many illegal immigrants and their children march and scream "Hecho en Mexico", wave their various non-U.S. flags while they march and bang drums demanding a "living wage" and more benefits, Chicano studies programs and so on.

It's disgraceful.

"No dice nada" does not make sense in this context. What was most likely said is "no hice nada", which means "I didn't do anything".

Right-on Realitycheck88 but you and I don't know anything we are just "occasional nut jobs" ETR's words not mine.

Loved the picture on the front page of the new press this morning with the gangbanger sitting on the sidewalk with the large tattoo on his chest that said, "BROWN PRIDE". It's always nice to see which side the left want to hold hands with and coddle stating its societies fault these misfits are stabbing each other while they profess to have "pride" in who they are. Sorry, I have lots of "Pride" don't have a tattoo on my chest and I don't stab people..

The SB leftists should be very proud of themselves continually protesting and whining about the gang injunction proposal. While beatings, shootings and knifings continue the left will blame GW…..

ETR will wildly be opining in 4, 3, 2, 1……...

Right during the SBIFF? Dang the only thing they could have scripted it better is have it happen right in front of Bobby DeNiro or Katie Blanchette in front of the Arlington theater!

Conspiracy theorists could argue this was a set up by the right to promote the injunction by having it occur during the lefty's SBIFF!

Either way, Brown-pride guy pushing a baby stroller stabbed in the back during the middle of the day on one of the busiest intersections in town.

Someone needs to wake up and smell the brown coffee.

To say this is why we need a gang injunction, to me is not very well thought out. I wonder what the highest rates of crime are based around. Meaning I bet that domestic violence is at the top, maybe we should have domestic partner injunctions. Or how about alcohol injunctions cause we know that alcohol kills and maims more people then anything else, well except the over eating of dairy products. But God forbid we tell people that what they are eating is not only bad for you but got on your plate through acts of violence you could not stomach to watch let alone do, but since it is done behind closed doors we keep on ignoring it. You want to create real change in the community, it starts at home and ends right here. Stop blaming "those people over there".

Starts at the home? The problem is most of these homies parents didn't give a @#$& about parenting but more so about their culture and their pride. Their Brown pride. Great. Good for all of you. Take all that pride, whatever type or color, down to the next city council meeting and try to bully them into NOT voting for the gang injunction. Lame. I note that everyone is so concerned about having their civil rights infringed upon. Isn't that the whole point that when you break the law repeatedly, your have privileges, rights taken off the table till you learn how to behave yourself? Yeah, it starts at the home alright, but not the HOMIE!

Gang problems start and end with the gang members themselves.

If they are age of consent to cover their bodies with tattoos, they are age of consent to be responsible for every single decision they make and are to be exclusively held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

If they are age of consent to procreate, they are age of accountability and personal responsibility. End of discussion. This gang conduct resides totally within their choice and their control.

No one is doing gang members any favors making excuses for any of them.

Highest rates of crime according to our police blotters are: vagrants, drugs, alcohol, gangs and domestic violence. Or a combination of any of these.

When you have a pathetic revolving door of the exact same crimes that tax the use of expensive law enforcement personnel and an equally expensive criminal justice system, yet as a society you continue do nothing to get another message out there, we are all guilty of wasting precious public resources.

Drugs, alcohol, vagrants, gangs and domestic violence. Stop enabling them. Wrap them up in a package and get rid of them. All of them. All of them sicken our society. They are not product of a sick society; but just the opposite. They sicken the rest of us.

Right, darn those Mexicans who want a better opportunity in life for themselves and their offspring. People who want a better opportunity have ruined this country for hundreds of years.

This had nothing to do with defending territory for drug sales and ending the war on drugs would have no affect on gang crime because gangs have their territories so they can learn hand signals and arts and crafts (namely, spray painting) and these territories have nothing to do with selling drugs.

"darn those Mexicans" is an intentionally inflammatory straw dog and should be beneath you to assert, loonpt. You reveal your own ugly racist prejudice and ignorance about the country itself or even our country.

Mexico is full of opportunity today. You need to visit Mexico. Mexico is well on its way to being a leading first world nation. Read the book "Next 100 years" and the provocative prediction is the leading global powers 100 years from now will be Mexico and Turkey - rich in resources and strategic global positioning.

Legal immigration shall always be the way America continues to offer opportunity to anyone who still wants to come here, instead of going to Australia where opportunities are even greater.

Please explain how watching their "offspring" join gangs and consistently underscore academically in the US is offering their children a better opportunity, than what Mexico can offer them today where they have comfort in culture and language as Mexico grows into a very modern nation?

You don't sound very informed about immigration, Mexico or gang culture loonpt. Thank you for sharing, but take your race card and cash it in some place else.

I want it handled by LE before some random bystanders, or KIDS get hurt. The irony is you would think most people, including those in these hoods, whose children will be affected by these individuals would feel the same. I am almost starting to think the debate over this GI (not Gastro Intestinal) is a moot point as these dream teamers are going to keep it up until SB has no choice.

To hell with the injunction, law enforcement, restorative justice, common sense, all that stuff, to hell with it. Let them all kill each other. It is what they want to do.
I don't give a shyte about them, why would anyone? They're lowlifes, douches, scum, vermin, cancers, tumors, USELESS.
Let them stab each other to death, it is the natural order of things. LET THEM KILL EACH OTHER!
I say we give them sharper, pointier, longer knives with serrated blades and have them "meet up" more often. We can then place bets on the outcome.
There, gang problem solved along with providing entertainment for those of us who KNOW these pieces of crap are NOT of this Earth. LET THEM KILL EACH OTHER! It IS what they want! Give them their wish!.

Send any gang member between the ages of 17-34 into the military immediately. And if they're not US Citizens, gather them, their children and their parents and deport them immediately. And while you're taking out the trash, make sure to seize all their money and assets. I say we take every last penny they've stolen from us tax paying, law abiding citizen and give it to victims of gang crime.

Simple. In less than 5 years we'd clear the streets of the scum and send millions of illegal cheaters back home, penniless. After all they're the ones who lied, cheated and stole in order to better themselves...After 4 years of service, they can apply for citizenship and become American. Good for us, good for them.

By the way: There was not a single mention of race in my post. I dont care what color or ethnicity you are, if you cheat and you break the law, you're a criminal and deserve to be punished. Enforce the basic immigration law and we'll remove a large portion of these criminals and their offspring.

Ah yes, the politicking, but the problem goes 'round and 'round.

Let's see...overcrowding, and a place where only the very well-off can live a decent life, yet people wonder why the place is going down the drain.

Good luck arguing along the liberal/conservative polemic, but crack open a newspaper, see how much jobs pay vs. the price of housing, then it will become apparent why this problem will only get worse.

Gangbangers (as well as the problem of homelessness) are the proverbial "canary in the coal mine", and are symptoms of a much deeper problem.

Well of course, they're so affordable compared to...Nebraska, Ohio...

Bottom line: Our immigration policy is based on the assumption that some groups come here to better themselves, but that other groups come here to serve as expendable cheap labor and who are not encouraged to assimilate. Add to that overcrowding and high prices and now the talk of the town is about gangs and gang injunctions.
