Santa Barbara will ignite its passion and “Go Red” this February to raise awareness for heart-disease in celebration of National Wear Red Day and National Heart Month. Hundreds of women, men, and businesses will show their support for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Movement as they join together and participate in various events to end heart disease – the #1 killer of women in the United States.

“The Santa Barbara American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement offers informative programs and events to increase awareness of women’s heart disease while raising the funds needed to help them live longer, stronger, and healthier lives,” said Lisa Dosch, Executive Director of the American Heart Association’s Central Coast & Northern Central Coast Divisions.

Flags on State Street “Go Red” – February 4 – 16

In recognition of February as National Heart Month, the Downtown Organization of Santa Barbara will showcase symbolic red flags representing the American Heart Association, bearing the iconic heart and torch emblem. This will be the second year of participation for the American Heart Association. The AHA flags will fly up and down State Street in downtown Santa Barbara for two weeks, helping to raise awareness for heart disease, this nation’s #1 killer.

Santa Barbara Go Red For Women Luncheon – February 14th

On Friday, February 14, the American Heart Association will be joined by over 500 women and men dressed in red at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort for the Santa Barbara Go Red For Women Luncheon.

The exhilarating event will take place from 10:00 am- 1:30 pm at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort and is programmed to feature inspiring stories from local heart disease survivors, educational breakout sessions, and additional guest speakers which include well known, stand-up comedian and motivational speaker, Diana Jordan. Highlights include local KEYT News Channel 3 Anchor, Shirin Rajaee, serving as the event emcee, educational breakout sessions will be conducted by American Medical Response, and celebrity chef and Karma Chow Founder, Melissa Costello. The 2014 Santa Barbara Go Red For Women Luncheon is presented locally by Union Bank.
