I had only known Barry for a short three years, but I will always remember and miss him as I would an old, dear, and lifelong friend: That’s how he made you feel — always attentive, kind, generous, and listening to you with unconditional kindness and care … I am lucky to work with some of his students and love how their faces light up when I mention him. He inspired so many, opening the door to poetry and making them love it with joy and ease. My heart is full of gratitude and sorrow …
