Construction has begun on a number of pedestrian-safety improvements on Cathedral Oaks Road at Santa Marguerita Drive, where a woman crossing on foot was hit and killed in November 2013. The project, which will take around two weeks to complete, is adding solar-powered, pedestrian-activated lights to the crosswalk; removing the dedicated turn lane from westbound Cathedral Oaks Road to northbound Santa Marguerita Avenue; adding curb extensions for the north leg of the intersection; and creating a pedestrian median area.

This is good and cute and all, but there are OTHER areas thatare in need of a pedestrian crossing signal.
The crosswalk on Hollister just before Patterson is a prime example. It is almost a blind spot of its own and when it gets dark, that segment is NOT lit up appropriately.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen somebody almost get clipped by a car on that crosswalk.
The question here is this: Does the Goleta law enforcement keep it that way to generate more revenue in the form of traffic violation?

I find it interesting that the installation of bulb-outs in Santa Barbara (such as what is going in at the intersection of Cathedral Oaks Road and Santa Marguerita Drive in Goleta) resulted in a hue and cry that a vast anti-car conspiracy was underway. In Goleta the reaction is a collective shrug. Maybe the difference in reactions is indicative of the difference between residents of Santa Barbara and residents of Goleta. Viva Goleta!

Goleta and Santa Barbara are 2 different animals in terms of mentality, structure, traffic and a myriad of other issues.
In Goleta they're mainly talking crosswalks, a more logical and easier approach. The "pedestrain median" they're talking about in NOT a bulb-out.
