Dead Man Found on Bench

A 46-year-old man was found dead on a bench on upper State Street this morning, and officials are working to determine when and how he died. Police spokesperson Sgt. Riley Harwood said the man was discovered in the 3900 block of State Street at around 9 a.m. and that while authorities have tentatively identified him, they are not publicly releasing his name at this point in their investigation. It’s unclear if the man was homeless, Harwood said, explaining it appears he died of natural causes. There were no obvious signs of trauma and no suspicious evidence at the scene, he noted. The case has been turned over to the Coroner’s Office.
