Second District Supervisor Janet Wolf and several dozen of her supporters celebrated the opening of her La Cumbre-area campaign headquarters on Thursday night, with snacks, yard signs, and many references to a “grassroots”-style race against Wolf’s challenger, Goleta City councilmember Roger Aceves.

“I could not do what I’m doing without all of your help,” Wolf said, pointing to a sign saying “volunteer” on the wall in front of her. “The fact that you’re here and helping me and supporting me means a great deal to me.” Wolf, first elected in 2006, praised her “great walking team” and said that although some people might not always agree with her, “I honestly believe that they trust me.”

“This is the space where we’re going to win this race for her,” said Santa Barbara City Councilmember Cathy Murillo, who attended the opening. “You’re one of my favorite people in the whole world,” she said to Wolf. “I’m ready to sweat for you.” Other attendees included Murillo’s fellow councilmember Gregg Hart, attorney Marc Chytilo, former Santa Barbara Mayor Hal Conklin, activist Mickey Flacks, Goleta City councilmembers Ed Easton and Paula Perotte, and Lauren Hanson of the Goleta Water District.

Wolf, who formally announced her bid for re-election in early January, will face Aceves on June 3. The 2nd District includes parts of Goleta, Santa Barbara, and an unincorporated region of the county. Aceves’s election office is slated to open soon, said his campaign manager, Chris Collier.

GAG!!!

Time to send incumbents packing. They are not the self proclaimed rulers of Santa Barbara.

"Santa Barbara City Councilmember Cathy Murillo, who attended the opening. “You’re one of my favorite people in the whole world,” she said to Wolf. “I’m ready to sweat for you.”

If this doesn't say something I don't know what will. Salivating all over her "Political messiah"... Hey Cathy, please I'll pay you not to see you sweat!!!

Janet supports managed retreat at Goleta Beach Park. Managed retreat means removing some of the current protection and letting the ocean reclaim the park. If you disagree with managed retreat, don't vote for Janet.

Apart from Managed Retreat. Janet is a micro manager and her style has led to the loss of some high caliber professionals from the executive ranks. Add to that her budget history or incompetent fiscal management policies (and a general fund reserve the size of one that would be acceptable for a city of 60,000, not a county of 250,000+) and no long term plan for operations and maintenance of a new jail coming on line, which is millions, and SB should RUN to any other candidate.

Janet Wolf is a pocket puppy for the right amount of $$$ & special interest groups.
Look at what she accomplished with the Elings park Bikefest: Had an Orange County law firm file an injunction against the park with hopes to ruin that event, all to the tune of $100,000 in taxpayer money while making Santa Barbara lose business from out of town guests.
Look at who her support base is. Time to send Janet to her native planet far, FAR away from local politics.

Hokey smoke, Bullwinkle, here we go again. The lurkers sent by Fearless Leader are trashing a favored target and it's time to go to the rescue; Alley, OOP!

Are these wankers really different people, or just one with many aliases? Guess we'll never know, aliases being cowardly shields for the inept, incompetent, impudent, malicious, malodorous, maladjusted and just plain stupid, but all these aliases are fairly new. Hmmmmm... At least none of them carry the sign of the 88, yet. Look, Rock, nothing up my sleeve--Presto!

Janet has a solid record upon which to stand. She's a woman of integrity, paid for by no one and for sale to no one. The fact that her record doesn't please everybody is a testament to that. She's made many decisions with which I take exception, but has done so honestly, with integrity and with her full explanations. I respect that. I have no respect for anonymous snipers.

Greg, If that is your real name! JK. Your argument is weak so you start by calling others names (lurkers, wankers), then question their very existence (Are these wankers really different people.) Then go back to name calling again (cowardly shields for the inept, incompetent, impudent, malicious, malodorous, maladjusted and just plain stupid). Now get in your licks at other posters you despise even though they are not posting. And finally heap non-specific praise ( solid record, a woman of integrity, paid for by no one and for sale to no one. honestly, with integrity) all that is missing is the canonization.
Rule 5 of rules for radicals “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” If name call is all you got you should really stay out of the discussion regardless of what side you take!

Justmythoughts,

Greg is just a clown, another follower of Kool-Aid drinkers. He calls Janet a "Woman of integrity, paid for by no one and for sale to no one, has a solid record".

I guess that is why unions love her right Greg? She never passes out free money, or lavish contracts and benefits. Or how about not spending money on repairing infrastructure? Why did it take another supervisor to get an initiative on the ballot to force the three stooges to do there job?

Yes Greg, your a man of integrity too, a follower of pie dreams, a man living in a glass house who throws stones. Greg, put down the pipe back away from the bowl an open your eyes to a world of lemmings who are still clinging to Hope and Change.

The raw negativity of some of these comments is a good reminder of the desperate negativity of Aceves and his followers. These tactics of trying to tear down the incumbent and anyone who supports her, using vile, personal and insulting language, seems like an attempt to avoid focus on Aceves record as a council person. The record is clear that his focus has been on building out Goleta regardless of impacts on traffic congestion and water shortages. Meanwhile he's failed on renegotiating the revenue neutrality agreement, building a new Goleta City Hall, revitalizing Goleta Old town, all the issues he pledged to fix both times he ran.

Goleta residents would be glad to have him leave to become County Supervisor. Except we also live in the County and looking at Aceves big money contributors gives us fright. His big oil donations alone suggest he'd allow more drilling not just in Goleta but also off shore, in Gaviota and elsewhere, affecting Goleta.

We expect more negative comments, anything to distract from Aceves' record and his big money donors. So keep it up gang. It's not working.

Fact. Janet's top contributers are the Unions. EDC is a huge supporter. EDC drove the agenda related to Managed Retreat. She has never taken a stand against them. The County budget was destroyed during her first term with departments like Parks taking hits of over 25% in 3 years. Current General Fund reserves are pennies compared to what an agency this size should have. Fact. Numerous quality department heads have left because of the micro management of this board majority. The CAO structure is a joke that is antiquated, but favored by those elected that want to micro manage, and Janet, Salud and Doreen pushed it through. Tell me one fiscal policy of substance she has supported apart from continued spending on pet projects at the expense of the greater good? Now, under their watch, we are building a jail and no one has even talked about the on going maintenance and ops cost to run it. Competent???

Who is being negative? What you see as "negativity" I see it as truthful. Oh, that's right, the bleeding heart libleft sees anything opposing their view as negative. Get over yourselves will you?
Dolphinpod, a "pocket puppy" is one of those small dogs that celebs like Paris Hilton and her ilk lug around to look cute.
In this particular case the term "pocket puppy" is used to describe a lap dog lugged around by the special interest groups who's agenda said pocket puppy backs and supports.

Ha, the Teahaddist trolls are at it again. "Pocket Puppy", "Kool Aid" lame cliches, check, emotional fact free comments, check. It is looks like a moranic convergence of teh stupid. This usually happens around election time here at the Indy. Lots of hot air, but in the end all that matters is the scoreboard. Wolf will win, and win big which is a win for the residents of Santa Barbara County.

It is pathetic that Roger Aceves is hitching his wagon to people who spew the kind of bitter venomous slander reflected in some of the comments on this page. Then again, a public official who refers to someone as "turbanhead" cant be expected to attract a very nice set of supporters.

Your typos show your anger, which is usually a clear sign of lack of intellect and reliance on emotional rhetoric. Oh, and stupidity as well. Check.

Uh, duh big boy, Its what sells, even for a free publication, the Indy gains. Capitalism at its best. Check.

"Lots of hot air, but in the end all that matters is the scoreboard. Wolf will win, and win big which is a win for the residents of Santa Barbara County."

Of course she will, the teabaggers on the left will want to maintain the status quo to preserve their political machine. Why would Murillo have gotten elected otherwise?

A win? You probably said the same thing about Obummer, 6 years going on 7 years of fails of epic proportions with 1 more to go, feeling like a winner now? Nah, didn't think so.

The Obama administration has been a huge a success by any reasonable metric. The economy is booming, the stock market is soaring and have you noticed that he has not started any wars? The only real complaints that the teahaddist have is that he is not white and has a funny name. Wolf will be re elected because the majority of voters agree with her. That is how democracy works trolls. If you do not like it, get more voters to agree with you (not likely) or get the fu@k out of California.

About a month before he was elected, he promised to step up military action in Afghanistan. While technically you may be right, he's hardly a pacifist.

It's easy to make such pronouncements when you are thousands of miles away from where bombs are dropping on innocent people.

The economy is not "booming", it's actually getting worse and we are headed for a huge dollar crisis. The stock market is going up because our government counterfeits money through the banking system and this infusion of new credit is what caused the late 90s internet stock bubble and the housing bubble. Now it is causing a stock market bubble.

Employment continues to get worse as government continues to fudge the numbers since people who have not been able to find a job in some time are not considered 'unemployed' because they are not in the category of 'actively seeking employment', even though they may be.

Obama increased our military spending initially and droned way more innocent people than Bush ever did.

Loon your prediction of a "dollar crisis" is the same one that the hard money fringe has been spouting for decades. It is a myth sold to scare people into buying gold. Money is created when there is economic activity. If the money supply get too high, the Fed will pull put on the brakes. The government does not "fudge" the unemployment numbers. They use the same methodology that they have for years. Statistics should be your friend, but you are one that usually does not let facts get in the way of making your point. Although I am not in favor of drone strikes, comparing the hundred that have been killed to the tens of thousands that died due to Bush's wars is ridiculous.

And yes you would be wise to pick up some silver and gold, the stock market bubble is about to burst. This could bring gold and silver down in the very short term with the rest of the market like they did in 2008, but I wouldn't be caught dead holding dollars when the next financial crisis occurs so I would be long on gold, silver and foreign investments.
