Santa Barbara, CA – The Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara One Hundred Committee announced today that it has confirmed Christina Binkley as the guest speaker for the 2014 Scholarship Luncheon to be held on April 10th. Binkley is The Wall Street Journal’s fashion and style columnist, a frequent on-air commentator, and author of the New York Times bestseller Winner Takes All.

A graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Binkley never expected to cover fashion, having worked for years as a news reporter, and later covering such topics as real estate, travel, and gambling. But with the luck that comes with hard work, she eventually landed her current position — critiquing fashion runways from New York to Milan to Paris, and taking readers behind the curtains, with frequent forays into the arts and entertainment.

“We are thrilled to have Christina as our speaker this year,” said Luncheon Co-Chair Connie Pearcy. “As a professional woman who has worked her way up through the ranks to become an accomplished and respected leader in her field, she is the perfect embodiment of the Girls Inc. mission of ‘inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.’”

“Christina, a highly accomplished journalist, wife and mother of two, brings a wealth of life experience and her own personal style to this event,“ added Luncheon Co-Chair Leslie Schneiderman. “Style is not just about appearance; it is about self expression, individuality, and being comfortable and confident in your own skin. We think this is an empowering message, not just for the girls of Girls Inc., but for all young women in our community.”

The One Hundred Committee also announced today that Villa Sevillano will be the venue for the 2014 Scholarship Luncheon. Situated on 22-sprawling acres in the Carpinteria foothills, this classic Italian villa and equestrian estate is rarely open to the public and features terraced formal gardens, rose gardens, citrus orchards, and over 200 mature olive trees for which the property is named. “We are so grateful to the owner of Villa Sevillano for opening his home for this event,” said One Hundred Committee president Mindy Denson. “Just walking around this magnificent estate is a memorable experience in itself, and we feel lucky to be able offer attendees a rare glimpse of this breathtaking property. We couldn’t ask for a more beautiful backdrop for our very special event.”

About The Girls Inc. One Hundred Committee:

The One Hundred Committee was founded almost thirty years ago based on the concept that if 100 women joined forces over lunch once a year, they could together raise significant scholarship funds for the girls of Girls Inc. Since its inception, the One Hundred Committee, made up entirely of community volunteers, has raised close to $4 million and the annual Scholarship luncheon has become one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, featuring speakers such as Oprah Winfrey and Maria Shriver, among others.
