The Santa Ynez Airport Authority is hosting an “Airport Day” this coming May 17. In order to provide an appropriate level of interest a Media Day for all local broadcast and print media is being held on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 1:00pm on the lawn area at Santa Ynez Valley Airport.

Airport Day will be a free community event with more than thirty local aircraft on display with the pilots to regal the attendees with their tales of daring-do in the wild blue. There will be a variety of aircraft on display from a T-28 Trojan military trainer, a modern business jet aircraft, a 1939 de Havilland Tiger Moth, to a nearly perfect Piper Cub.

There will also be a Young Eagles event running concurrently. Young Eagles is a program through local chapters of the Experimental Aircraft Association that provides FREE airplane rides to youngsters between the ages of 8 to 18.

During the entire day there will additionally be programs on Aeronautics with local flight instructor and charter pilot Jeff Millard. There will be a program on women in aviation with a new woman pilot and an experienced woman aerobatics instructor. There will also be an opportunity for the attendees to meet with current and former airline pilots and a US Air Force fighter pilot. Sheriff Bill Brown and his Helicopter Aviation Support Unit will be presenting information on their operations out of Santa Ynez Airport.

The final program during the day will be an open meeting of the Santa Ynez Valley Airport Authority Board of Directors devoted to public comments. This will be an opportunity for the community to meet the people who have done much towards making Santa Ynez Airport the outstanding country airport that it is.

There will be no charges for anything during the day; parking is free, attendance is no charge, all programs and airplane rides are free as is the hamburger and hot dog barbecue! Letters are going out to every student in the valley inviting them to this event.

Media day will have some of these aircraft on display for broadcast and print media to examine closely! We’ll also have some very good-looking pilots to tell their stories! We’ll look forward to seeing you on Monday, May 12, 2014 on the lawn at Santa Ynez Airport for Media Day.
