Map of Goleta's proposed parking restricted area for Halloween 2014

Some Goleta neighborhoods near Isla Vista could face parking restrictions over Halloween weekend — the holiday falls on a Friday this year — if the City Council votes to enact such temporary rules at its meeting on Tuesday, October 7. Only off-street parking would be allowed for residents living between Cannon Green Drive and Storke Road, and from Hollister Avenue to the southern city limits along Whittier Drive, according to city spokesperson Valerie Kushnerov. Residents whose number of cars exceed their amount of driveway space could get permits through a partnership with Girsh Park and the Camino Real Marketplace.

Further details on what a “yes” vote by the council would mean will be available in the council’s staff report, which will be posted to the city’s website by the evening of Thursday, October 2. Residents can reach out to councilmembers via email at citycouncil@cityofgoleta.org or by calling (805) 961-7500 ahead of Tuesday’s meeting, which will begin at 1:30 p.m.

City staff and authorities are also set to host a community meeting regarding Halloween on October 16 at 6 p.m. at council headquarters at 130 Cremona Drive. “Isla Vista Halloween has huge impacts on Goleta’s neighborhoods, and those who live in close proximity to Isla Vista have repeatedly expressed their displeasure at the public nuisances associated with this event,” said Vyto Adomaitis, the city’s director of public safety and neighborhood services, in a prepared statement. “This proposal is being presented to the Goleta City Council for their consideration as a means to enhance public safety and minimize impacts to those neighborhoods.”
