“Follow” (excerpt) by Sarah Elgart’s Arrogant Elbow

For 10 years, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara has presented performance art on 1st Thursdays through Heather Jeno Silva’s wide-ranging and high-quality Forum Lounge program. To celebrate this landmark anniversary, Forum Lounge is morphing into a weekend-long performance-art festival, featuring eight artists in a variety of settings, from the intimacy of Microscope Toy Theater, which is “a miniature spectacle performed in a vintage suitcase,” to the grandeur of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, which is the location for the Thursday, September 18, opening-night event featuring Sarah Elgart’s Arrogant Elbow. This site-specific work called “Follow” investigates the connections between leaders and their acolytes in a participatory multimedia experience that will have viewers moving around the courthouse building and grounds to follow the action. Other highlights include Annie Dorsen’s “Spokaoke,” a spoken-word variation on karaoke that will take place at Municipal Winemakers; a participatory piece by Elizabeth Folk; Miwa Matreyek’s delightful animations; and evening-length works at Center Stage on Saturday-Sunday, September 20-21, by Faye Driscoll and Janie Geiser. At various locations, Thursday-Sunday, September 18-21. Call 966-5373 or visit mcasantabarbara.org.
