It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since the dawn of New Noise Santa Barbara. Founded in 2009, the annual festival and conference has ballooned into fall’s can’t-miss music event, boasting a full day’s worth of panel discussions, workshops, and lectures, as well as five jam-packed nights of live tunes at nearly every music venue downtown S.B. has to offer up. What that means is concerts for everyone, from the die-hard punker to the boot-scootin’ cowboy to the throwback-loving synth freak. While the powers that be are still slow releasing this year’s lineup, the stuff that’s snuck through the cracks already has us buzzing. Retro rocker (and modern-day cutie) Nick Waterhouse will be making his long-awaited return to the 805. L.A. folk-roots band Dawes is also slated to hold down a night. And Ohio’s fuzzed-out notables Cloud Nothings bring their crunchy take on garage rock to S.B. for the first time as part of the proceedings. Also in the mix: Cherub, The Story So Far, Gnarwolves, Joyce Manor, Souvenirs, Modern Baseball, and many, many more. Wednesday-Sunday, October 15-19.
