Pacifist Opposed to Post Office Renaming

Open Letter to Rep. Lois Capps

Recently, I read that you plan to rename our main post office in Santa Barbara. I was and am a pacifist and an ardent opponent to war as a solution … in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, or anywhere. To name such a prominent building after a military person is an affront to the many people of Santa Barbara who got out and protested Saturday after Saturday, week after week, before our government decided to send our soldiers into harm’s way in Afghanistan You yourself even opposed this decision.

What are you thinking?! Please do not rename the post office without a chance for local public comment. Find another way to give tribute to the soldier, if you must.
