Thirteen years ago, in trying to make a different point, I made a poorly expressed comment about the next generation of the Chumash. I quickly apologized for the comment.

What is remarkable to me is that the Tribe would choose to use that negative remark to promote their dedication to educating their young people. Why would they want to do that?

Clearly the successful efforts to provide Tribal youth with a good education should stand on its own and should be applauded on its own merits.

Gail Marshall served as the county’s 3rd District Supervisor from 1997-2004.
