8/16: Soccer: Mexico Under-17 National Team vs. Santa Barbara Soccer Club: Mexico has won the FIFA U17 World Cup twice in the last decade and will be going for a third championship this fall in Chile. Santa Barbara’s U17 boys team has claimed two titles in the U.S. Youth Soccer Championships and reached the semifinals this year. Tim Heiduk (Dos Pueblos High/Westmont College) is one of three college-bound players on the home team. Other standouts include Santa Barbara High’s Brandon Sanchez, Chairat “Lucky” Puengrod of Buena, and Francisco Arroyo of Carpinteria. 5pm. San Marcos High Warkentin Stadium, 4750 Hollister Ave. $5-$10.
