Woman Shoots Self in Goleta Shopping Center

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman who had shot herself in the stomach in the University Plaza Shopping Center on the 7100 block of Hollister Ave. in Goleta this afternoon, Friday, August 21. When deputies arrived at the scene a few minutes later, they secured the gun and ensured that it was safe for Fire and Medic personnel to enter. According to a prepared statement from Lt. Craig Bonner, there was “only one person injured during this incident and the injury was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” The woman, who was experiencing a mental health crisis, was transported to a local hospital.
