The Goldspotted Oak Borer (Agrilus auroguttatus)

Invasive species that are decimating millions of trees in California can be transported in firewood. The California Forest Pest Council asks campers statewide to do their part by buying firewood locally instead of lugging it from home. Among the bugs and trees of concern are the polyphagous shot hole borer which affects avocados, the goldspotted oak borer and Phytophthora ramorum which are killing oaks (the latter causes sudden oak death), and pitch canker, a fungus that affects many pine species. Local firewood vendors can be found here.
