Gibraltar Skateboarder Sustains Major Head Injuries

A woman in her 20s sustained major head injuries Sunday evening as she was skateboarding down Gibraltar Road and collided with a car coming up the mountain pass. The crash took place along a hairpin turn east of East Camino Cielo at around 7:45 p.m. Captain Dave Zaniboni with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department said the woman was transported by ambulance to Cottage Hospital. Her identity and condition are unknown.

With its steep hills and sharp turns, Gibraltar is a popular destination among bicyclists and skateboarders looking for a fast ride down Santa Barbara’s front country. The road was recently repaired and repaved. The work was completed less than two weeks ago.
