Tryouts for a new Santa Barbara County High School Hockey Team, open to students in grades 9-12 during the 2015-16 school year, will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Channel Islands Ice Center, 830 Wagon Wheel Road, Oxnard.

The S.B. team will play home games in the “Ice in Paradise” facility that is being built in Goleta. Other teams in the fall-winter league, sponsored by the L.A. Kings, will hail from northern Los Angeles County, Simi Valley, Oxnard, and Bakersfield.

There is a $25 advance registration fee for the tryout. There will be a one-time $3,000 fee for the season to cover the cost of jerseys, helmets and the rental of facilities for practices and games. For details, visit LAKings.com/highschool.
