City water customers are being warned that scammers are posing as city employees and demanding payment over the telephone with the threat of disconnecting the customer’s water. In this scheme, credit card or banking numbers are sought, which no city entity would request over the phone. Water disconnection notices are sent by mail, not telephone. For anyone who may have fallen prey to this fraud, a police report for theft can be filed with the Police Department.
