Critics of the Pope’s plans to canonize Father Junipero Serra will gather in Santa Barbara on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31.

Chumash and members of other California tribes are planning two panel discussions Saturday at the Unitarian Society, 1535 Santa Barbara Street, at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. An Honoring the Ancestors ceremony is scheduled at the Santa Barbara Mission Sunday at 1 p.m., according to Elias Castillo, author of the book A Cross of Thorns.
