Miramonte Resort in Indian Wells

Location, location, location, right? Well it is hard to beat Indian Wells for location. Set right in-between Palm Desert and La Quinta, it is just minutes from great golf, tennis, and shopping. The Miramonte Resort and Spa enjoys panoramic views of the nearby Santa Rosa Mountains and would be my first choice in Indian Wells.

The Town

Indian Wells started out as a golf community but has developed into one of the nicer townships in California. Local property taxes have funded parks, walkways, and its own 36-hole golf course. Not more than five minutes down Highway 111 is the famed El Paseo shopping district in Palm Desert, which is also home to the Westfield Mall. Everywhere you drive the streets are lined with tall palm trees, and the roads seem brand new. Hard not to like this place.

The Resort

The Miramonte Resort and Spa has a Tuscan theme throughout and reminded me a lot of the luxury properties surrounding Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley, Arizona. This is a very relaxing property lined with lushly landscaped walkways always leading to the large pool area in the middle. The panoramic Santa Rosa Mountains are close enough to touch and are always in view here.

Our room was quite large and included a shaded balcony overlooking the pool and offering those same mountain vistas. The bedding was extremely comfortable, which is something I really appreciated after the long drive from Santa Barbara. We actually had a separate sitting area and TV, which came in handy this football season. The bathroom area was oversized and equal to that of a five-star hotel. One thing I really like about the Miramonte is the ease of access with your car never more than a minute or two away. Golfers will appreciate this access as it is sometimes a pain to have to valet with clubs in the trunk.

The Dining

The Grove Artisan Kitchen is the signature dining choice at the resort and offers a farm-to-table fresh menu. The indoor-outdoor seating choice is sure to please all as will the food. Across the marble lobby is the Vineyard Lounge, which is perfect for a glass of wine whether you are there to meet friends or just enjoy the relaxing environment.

The Golf

The Indian Wells Golf Resort is just across the street from the Miramonte, and it is an excellent golf option. The City of Indian Wells owns this property, and it has spent a great deal of money on improvements. This may well be the finest city-owned golf facility in the nation. There are two championship 18-hole layouts: the Celebrity and Players courses. These courses were originally designed by Ted Robinson but have been significantly improved in recent years. Clive Clark did the remodel on the Celebrity Course and John Fought on the Players Course. They are both very good layouts now and are kept in a condition equal to a private club. The Indian Wells Golf Resort was home to the LG Skins Game from 2007-2009 and is currently ranked in the Top 20 “Courses You Can Play” in California by Golfweek.

The Indian Wells Golf Academy is available for those who desire instruction while on site. Troon Golf manages the golf operations for the entire facility, and they are the best in the business. The staff is very professional but does stay out of golfers way so they can enjoy their day.

The IW Club is serves as the golf clubhouse with its futuristic design that fits in well in the desert. Downstairs is the bar area, perfect for lunch and after-golf libations. More formal dining is available upstairs. Both areas have upscale furnishings and great views of the golf courses.

Indian Wells Country Club is set right behind the hotel. Although it is a private golf club, the concierge may well be able to arrange something for those interested. This track has 27 holes and has often been the host club for the Bob Hope Desert Classic. The even more exclusive Vintage Club and El Dorado Country Club are also close by set right against the mountains.

The Miramonte is a very relaxing place to spend a few days and just what you want on a desert outing. Golfers are sure to enjoy the location and feel of the place. You would be hard pressed to find a better place to just lie in the sun and unwind, in case your needs are much simpler. For complete details visit Miramonteresort.com.
