If you haven’t signed up yet to vote to decide the composition of the next City Council, visit the downtown public library today to register to vote. September 22 is National Voter Registration Day, and the public library on Anapamu Street will have volunteers on hand to answer any questions about how to register to vote, as well as the necessary registration forms. The Santa Barbara City Council election deadline to register to vote is October 19, and the districts in contention November 3 are the Eastside (District 1), Mesa (District 2), and Westside (District 3).

The vote to decide who succeeds President Obama takes place next year, on November 8, 2016, and now is the time to make sure you don’t miss out on the national vote. Anyone turning 18 by Election Day, a new U.S. citizen, or changing party affiliation or residence should register to vote.

In the 2012 election, an estimated 6 million people failed to vote simply because they couldn’t figure out how to register. Visit the library, 40 East Anapamu Street, to sign up in this nonpartisan effort, and start participating in democracy.
