Montecito House Fire Reduced

Over 20 firefighters just finished containing a house fire, which broke out Friday afternoon at 1901 East Valley Road in Montecito. After receiving reports from Valley Club maintenance personnel, Montecito firefighters responded to black smoke coming from a single-story guest cottage, according to a press release from the Montecito Fire Department. Although a housekeeper was in the cottage when the fire began, she exited safely upon hearing the fire alarm.

The fire was “knocked down” at approximately 2:20 p.m. Friday, meaning firefighters reduced the heat of its most intensely burning parts. Although no injuries have been reported, four fire engines, one fire truck company, one urban search and rescue vehicle, one squad, one ambulance, and several command vehicles remain on-scene. Personnel from the Montecito Fire Protection District, the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire District, and American Medical Response are also on-scene. The origin of the fire is being investigated.
