A new home offering permanent housing for chronically homeless women just opened up in downtown Santa Barbara thanks to a joint effort by the Mental Wellness Center, the city’s Housing Authority, and the county’s Department of Behavioral Wellness. The location of the new facility is being kept under wraps, given the vulnerability of residents. One room is set aside for a resident manager, and the other five for residents, who will be referred and screened by a Behavioral Wellness Homeless Outreach coordinator based on need and ability to get along in a group setting. Service providers will not have on-site offices but will visit clients on premises. Unlike most such endeavors, this one has no name.
