Sex Assault at I.V. Frat House

Two Incidents Have Been Reported Near UCSB in the Last Week

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office alerted UCSB students via an email Monday afternoon that a reported sexual assault had occurred early Sunday morning at an unspecified Isla Vista fraternity house.

Although the assault is said to have taken place “inside a fraternity house in Isla Vista” in the “early morning hours” on Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office warning did not specify the hour, the frat house, or the street block. Sheriff’s Office personnel declined to comment beyond the campus-wide email.

“The survivor reported an unknown male committed the sexual assault,” the message stated. The suspect was described as “Unknown” and no physical description was provided.

On Wednesday morning, January 13, the Sheriff’s Office sent a crime alert to UCSB students reporting a “non-stranger sexual assault” had taken place at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at a private residence in I.V.“During the initially consensual encounter, the male was told to stop. The male refused and the sexual assault occurred.” No suspect description was offered in that message. Both email notifications included a list of safety tips for preventing sexual assault.

Anyone with information about either incidents is asked to contact the Sheriff’s anonymous tip line at (805) 681-4171 or at sbsheriff.org/anonymoustips.html.
