Compare and Contrast

The opinion piece “Reclaiming the Republican Party” throws around words from the lexicon of Liberal new speak in an attempt to contrast the Republican Party with the supposed hate by Donald Trump, who rightly tweaks the frustration and anger of a lot of Americans over Muslims and Mexican illegal immigrants, or at least affirms their anger over the feckless performance and wordsmithing of the Obama administration.

Lanny Ebenstein likens the language of some Republicans about Muslims to that of anti-Semitism, but he doesn’t consider the new Jewish diaspora in the Muslim Middle East. No wonder Israel has perfected profiling; Obama could learn a lot from them. Muslims must be recognized as predominant participants in terrorism in recent decades. You do not see such acts committed by Buddhists, Methodists, Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, or whatever. Seeing this, the Israelis vigorously profile suspects and use other strict measures. This is reflected in ISIS being afraid to attack Israel, I have heard from an Israeli.

It is ridiculous that Ebenstein contrasts Trump with the (dubious) purity of the Republican Party. Its first presidential candidate was Fremont, a great explorer who helped in the defeat of indigenous nations. The Emancipation Proclamation had a difficult time getting passed by Republicans. Later, a political compromise resulted in Jim Crow and black subjugation until the 1960s Civil Rights Acts and Supreme Court decisions. After that, the South shifted its longtime Democratic Solid South for Republican conservatism and solidarity.

In summary, the opinion piece is inaccurate, misguided, and just plain silly.
