Eden Turner and Ari Plachta
Paul Wellman

The town and gown system is alive and well. Our news interns arrive with digital clippings in hand — ranging from S.B. High’s Forge to UCSB’s Daily Nexus — and head right out to get to the bottom of an assortment of assignments. Better yet, they report back with intelligent, interesting stories and facts. Eden Turner (left), who’s headed for a journalism degree at Fordham University come fall, found she enjoyed “learning about real people and real events” as well as the excitement of writing quickly on time-sensitive subjects. Poli sci major Ari Plachta, who’s spending the summer at the Brookings Institution as a research intern — “It’s a paid position,” she enthused — wrote about disparate topics, from moped theft to the deal between the EU and Turkey. We hope their future beats appreciate them as much as we do.
