Drive to Fly

I agree with everything Evan Skopp wrote in his letter that appeared in The Independent recently as to the problems with flying out of our local airport. One thing he did not mention are the frequent flight delays, primarily to San Francisco but also to Los Angeles, that often wreak havoc on a trip. As frequent flyers have figured out, United Airlines puts much greater emphasis on larger jets being able to land/depart timely, and the small jets used in Santa Barbara are the unfortunate recipients of this policy. Combined with the almost daily weather issues and limited runways at SFO, it’s a recipe for disaster. So in addition to paying substantially more for the benefit of flying locally, the only way one can be assured of a reasonably timely trip is to drive to L.A. or Burbank.
