The public is invited to Carpinteria City Hall on 10/20 at 2 p.m. for an update on efforts to properly seal Summerland’s long-abandoned offshore Becker well, which has been seeping oil to nearby beaches and nearshore waters for years. The meeting, hosted by the State Lands Commission, will also open the public-comment window for the forthcoming Environmental Impact Report for the $800,000 project. Commission staff will accept feedback until 11/7, with plans to present the draft EIR to the public next spring.
