Visit the Channel Islands Virtually

Seaweed sways to and fro hypnotically in the amazing video feed from Channel Islands National Park’s underwater webcam, livened up with occasional visits from garibaldi, opaleye, and the amazingly ever-present sound of snapping shrimp. We’re not sure what happens when night falls, but we can’t wait to find out.

The Ocean Webcam trained on a kelp forest is just one of the videos from the National Park. On October 6, Dr. Daniel Muhs will speak at the Ventura Harbor on the mammoths that once roamed the Channel Islands and recent archeological finds. Santa Barbarans can watch that talk virtually here. To see Dr. Muhs in person, be at the park Visitor Center at 1901 Spinnaker Drive at 7 p.m. next Thursday. That talk will be archived here, where past lectures can also be viewed.

A couple other camera placements out at the islands focus on a bald eagle nest and above water at Anacapa Island. See them all at nps.gov/chis/learn/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm .
