Gaviota Body Identified as Missing Man

After a nearby resident found a body in Las Canovas Canyon just north of the Gaviota hot springs on Friday afternoon, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office identified him as Eric “Sunny” Buttler of Ojai, who was last seen in Carpinteria on June 24. He’d been headed for Lompoc, family members said when they reported him missing on June 28. He apparently spent the night in Carpinteria, and his vehicle was found outside Santa Maria on July 4. Public assistance is sought in the investigation; please call the Sheriff’s Office at (805) 683-2724 or (805) 681-4171 anonymously.
