The 10/21 meeting of the Isla Vista Project Area Committee had community members suggesting that the I.V. Master Plan should be reopened for public comment in light of concern about the prospect of subterranean parking being constructed, among other things. Only two actions were taken at the meeting, however: one thanking outdoing redevelopment director Jamie Goldstein and another thanking outgoing 3rd District Supervisor Brooks Firestone. (/iv1030)

In a 10/27 letter to UCSB campus paper the Daily Nexus, 3rd District Supervisor Brooks Firestone asked Isla Vista residents to boycott the community’s infamous Halloween festivities in order to drive away out-of-towners who so often trash the area during this weekend. Firestone said doing so would improve UCSB’s reputation and save money that the cash-strapped county must spend to provide law enforcement and emergency services during the weekend.
