Phyllis Dodson lost her battle with leukemia, and passed away at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on June 5. She was with her family as she embarked on yet another adventure.

She married Edward N. Dodson in September 1957. Their children include Bruce Harrison Dodson, Stephen Bradford Dodson ( wife Gabriela ), Holly Elizabeth Dodson, and William Sasscer Dodson ( wife Tiare). Phyllis also leaves three beloved grandchildren : Ysabella Pilar Dodson and Edward Diego Dodson of Goleta, and Paul Bradford Dodson of Ventura.
The Dodsons moved to Santa Barbara in 1966. While raising her children, Phyllis was active as a community volunteer, serving on the Boards of the Citizens Planning Association, League of Women Voters, Friends of the Santa Barbara Library, and Junior League. She was also active in the Vieja Valley and San Marcos PTAs, and with other civic and political organizations.
Professionally she was a travel writer and editor with Trans Pacific Special Interest Tours, American Database and Travel Data where she was managing editor of a series of travel guides for American Airlines. More recently, she was also a free lance writer.
Mrs. Dodson loved to travel, with three voyages around the world on the Semester at Sea program, and numerous other trips. Her greatest loves were family and friends, who have long admired her generosity and her concern for others.
A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held later in the summer. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, any contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
