Kathleen Devine O'Connor

1926 - 2008, Santa Barbara

Kathleen Devine O'Connor

Kathleen Devine O’Connor, age 82, died in Santa Barbara on Friday, May 2, 2008. She was born on January 20, 1926 in Chicago, IL. One of six children, she was the eldest daughter of John and Anna Devine.

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward, and their 6 children: Kevin (Greta) of San Francisco; Ann Cirimele (Joseph) of Stockton; Ellen of Buellton, CA; James (Krista) of Puyallup, WA; Patrick (Thom) of San Francisco; and Joan (Jacquie) of Montecito, CA. Kathleen was an adoring grandmother to 5 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. Kathleen is also survived by her siblings Rev. William Devine of Palos Hills, IL and Maureen (Don) Bartholomew of Spring Hills, FL and in-laws Catherine Kasper of Fayetteville, NC and Don Dillenburg of Aurora, IL. She was preceded in death by brothers John and Kevin Devine and sister Virginia Dillenburg.

Over the years, Kathleen and Ed raised their family in communities throughout the US. After leaving Illinois, they lived in West Bend, WI, Tempe, AZ, San Rafael, CA, New City, NY and Castro Valley, CA. They retired to Santa Barbara in 2002.

Kathleen and Ed attended services in both St. Raphael and Our Lady of Mount Carmel parishes. Prior to that they were parishioners at Our Lady of Grace in Castro Valley, CA for 22 years where Kathleen served as a member of the Altar Society. Kathleen was a devout Catholic and daily communicant whose faith brought her much comfort.

Kathleen also volunteered to support the Family Resource Network by sewing more than 600 blankets for premature infants. Kathleen loved to garden, read British mystery novels and work a good crossword puzzle. She enhanced the lives of all with her wisdom, grace, and spirit.

Kathleen’s funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, May 7 at 10 AM at St. Raphael’s Church, 5444 Hollister Avenue, Goleta, CA. Internment will be private.
