John David Varner

After a valiant 2 ½ year battle with lung cancer John David Varner, 63, passed away surrounded by family and friends May 26, 2008. For those fortunate enough to know John, you know how special and unique he was. Always the life of the party, a devilish prankster with an infectious laugh. A consummate friend with a heart of gold, he loved and lived life to the ultimate and fullest.

He was a shameless flirt, but a loving faithful husband of 26 years to Lucinda. He was an incredibly loving and generous father to his 4 children. John is survived by his wife Lucinda, children Zoeann, Jonathan, Christian, and Alexandra, son-in-law Dirk Richardson. Granddaughter Sia, in-laws Jonathan and Eileen Winters, brother and sister-in law Jay and Mimi Winters, niece and nephew Jonai and Jonno.

John was schooled in Montecito and Santa Barbara, graduating from Santa Barbara High, class of 1962. After High School he joined the United States Army, where he served as a tank commander until his honorable discharge in 1965. Since 1988, Lucinda & John have owned a locations/pre-production business called Locations Plus.

John was a loyal friend to so many. We are all richer for having known such a gem. He left us too soon, but will be held in our hearts forever. The family wishes to thank John’s doctors, the wonderful “girls” at the Cancer Center and the loving nurses at Cottage Hospital. You all are treasures too!

Funeral services will be held Friday June, 6th 2:00PM at Santa Barbara cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The American Cancer Society in John’s name. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McDermott Crockett, 2936 De La Vina St. Santa Barbara, Ca. 805-569-2424.
