Janet Clair Mogilner Aiches

1920 - 2008, Santa Barbara

On September 10th, 2008, our wonderful sister, mother and friend died in Santa Barbara. Her husband of 39 years, Eugene "Gene" Aiches predeceased her in 1999.

Janet is survived by her sisters Natalie Mogilner Zucker and Betty Anne (Herman) Mogilner Lipow; her children Richard Saperstein and Joan (Jon) Saperstein Nackerud; her step-daughter Marilynn (Leo Lomeli) Aiches and her grandchildren Andrew Nackerud and Samantha Lomeli.

As Janet's death was sudden, her family would like all of you who were her friends to know that she loved you and that you helped to make her world an exciting and vibrant place.

Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1920, Janet and her family lived in Chicago and Los Angeles before moving to Santa Barbara in 1960.

Janet attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Philosophy. She earned a M.A. in Educational Counseling at UCSB and worked as a counselor and therapist for over 35 years. Janet was an accomplished pianist, loved music, wrote poetry, enjoyed art and literature and was a lifetime member of Hadassah. An active member of the Santa Barbara community and a lifelong advocate of education, Janet supported a number of vital organizations including scholarships at Santa Barbara City College, Hadassah, the Jewish Federation and New Beginnings.

A celebration of Janet's life will be held at the Maravilla Clubhouse (5486 Calle Real) starting at 2 PM on Friday, September 19th. Memorial donations can be sent to any of Janet's favorite organizations.
